Guide: How to paint a vinyl and linoleum floor

The PUR care programme can be used to either renovate the existing floor colour with PUR Clear or transforming the floor with a new colour using PUR Colour. Renovating with PUR Clear is the quickest option, while the addition of colour and design flakes requires a bit more time.

Workflow overview:

  • Renovation with PUR Clear: two coats.
  • Renovation with PUR Colour and Design Flakes:
one coat PUR Clear + one coat PUR Colour with Design Flakes + one coat PUR Clear.

Here is a detailed description of how to renovate with PUR Colour and Design Flakes.

Tools you will need before you start:

  • Floor mop/wet vacuum cleaner; alternatively, a floor cleaning machine with water recovery.

  • Buffing machine that can be fitted with a black nylon pad and a 150-180 grit mesh sanding disc.

  • Brush and paint roller with a pile length of approx. 11 mm.

  • Hand-held disc sander, scraper tool, small sanding block for edges and corners.

Before you start:

  • The surface must be completely dry and free from wax, grease, polish, soap residue, etc.

  • Use Junckers Intensive Cleaner to clean the floor surface.

  • Check the floor: Make sure the floor surface is intact so water can't penetrate beneath the floor covering.

Workflow:

2 | Scrub the surface

  • While the surface is still wet, work the soap mixture with a black nylon pad for at least 20 minutes.
  • Make sure the surface remains wet.
  • Add more PUR Intensive Cleaner if necessary.

3 | Remove used cleaning water

  • Remove the used cleaning water with a wet vacuum or mop.
  • Finish by washing the floor with clean water to remove all detergent residue.

Drying time:

Vinyl: Approx. 2 hours.
Linoleum: Minimum 24 hours.

4 | Sand the surface and remove sanding dust

  • Lightly sand the floor with 150-180 grit sanding disc to ensure good adhesion.

  • Remember that edges and corners require extra attention.

  • Remove sanding dust by vacuuming and clean using clean water and a well-wrung mop.

7 | Protect the paint and the Design Flakes

  • Prepare PUR Floor sealer as described in step 5.
  • Apply one coat of Junckers PUR Floor Sealer to protect the surface.

Drying times:

Ready for light traffic: 8 hours.
Fully cured: 72 hours.
Do not wash the floor for at least 72 hours.

Now the floor is ready for use
